Sharing requests

Friends and family,

I want to ask for prayers for many special people in our lives. It seems that this season has provided hardship for those near and dear to us. And, while I am personally praying for these people, I think that the more prayers that we can lift up for our friends and family, the better! So, here is a list of some of the people that I am praying for. Please pray with me:

  • My neices Megan and Hannah are both ill. Hannah is suffering from a bug of some sort that includes a fever. Megan also has suffered from the bug, but now she has developed pneumonia. Megan suffers from cerebral palsy and a mitochondrial disorder, as well as a seizure disorder. The high fevers that she has been having are very dangerous for Megan. Please pray for God to heal our precious neices!
  • My brother has his preliminary hearing for his divorce tomorrow. Please just pray for the judge to see the situation clearly. Pray for the innocent children who are affected in the situation!
  • The economy (I'm so tired of that word) has got many people down, and some even out of jobs. My dad's factory (where he has worked for 41 years!) is closing sometime after April 20th and before July 31st. Pray for my parents. Also, we have friends who are suffering from severe pay cuts in order to keep their jobs. Please pray for these people to have the financial means to get by.

While my other requests would fill pages, these are the biggest, most pressing issues. Please know that I pray for everyone who is special in my life daily! And I appreciate greatly you allowing me to share!

Blessings to those who read this!

Baby and Me

Wednesday will mark 28 weeks into my pregnancy with our baby girl, and the third and final trimester. And, up until this past weekend, I've felt amazing for being pregnant! But Saturday morning I woke up with a sore stomach. It felt like I had done crunches all night. More like a muscle soreness than anything. I knew it wasn't labor and so I went about my business as usual. Until about 1:30. Suddenly I realized that I was feeling worse. I laid down and drank plenty of water to only find that it wasn't helping. So, I called the doctor. He was very nice and assured me that it sounded like I had an umbilical hernia, which would not be treated until the baby was born. So... take it easy he said. And I did. (I sort of omitted the fact that I had helped move some furniture the day before...)

But... the day progressed and by night, my whole body hurt. It ached from the base of my neck to my ankles. It felt like the flu, aching like it was in my bones. With some tylenol I was able to catch just a little rest Saturday night. And I spent all of Sunday on the couch. The good news is... I feel much better today! I guess I had a virus or something. It was causing some contractions, but I am too stubborn to go to the hospital over a few early Braxton Hicks! Plus, I see the doctor on Friday and have an ultrasound that day too. I'm sure all is fine. Baby Chaille is moving all over letting me know that she is ok!

I'll leave you with a picture of baby and me that I took today. We are both surely growing!

Keeping My Faith

I remember vividly the way I felt when I typed THIS BLOG ENTRY. I never in a million years could have anticipated all the things God had in store for us when I typed that entry! I know that I sensed change, but could I really have known all that would happen in our lives? Let's see... Steve's deployment, an unexpected pregnancy, a new house, a promotion for Steve... I'd say that God was up to something and he was truly preparing my heart!

The wonderful thing is that we are all happily welcoming all of the changes coming up (and secretly praying that after Chaille is born that maybe we can settle in for a while!) I never want to find myself on auto-pilot, but I do want to be able to live without wondering what the next big change for us will be. God has blessed me with a great peace and sense of calm in that HE is in control. I can give Him all of my worries and enjoy the blessings He is bestowing upon us. That is the true beauty in my Christian faith.

Lately, I have been doing a great deal of praying and reflecting on my role as a mother. I want to leave a legacy for my children that will have them remembering me as a mother who, above all, loved her children! Being pregnant for practically 2 years straight has taken a toll on me, but I don't want them to know that I am feeling anything less than ready to take care of each one of their needs. I've prayed that God will give me energy and patience, when my own stores of each are lacking. It's amazing how I feel He is guiding me. Lately it is as if He has given me a new perspective on mothering. He's showing me that I have what it takes. This confidence is not meant to be confused as arrogance, because that is the last thing I want to be. But rather, this confidence is that My Heavenly Father has given me four children to take care of because He is taking care of me!

What an amazing hope I have! He hears my prayers and He is leading me daily!

If nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies.

Most of the time change in life is so gradual that you don't even seem to notice it. When we see our children daily, we don't always notice the changes that are taking place in them. Well, lately I HAVE noticed these changes taking place in the lives of my boys! I'd love to share with you the changes that have been occuring, thus documenting it for myself as well.

We'll start with Avery. He's maturing so much. He's starting to read and for him this has been such an abrupt thing. It's like something has just clicked and now he can sound out words he doesn't know. But I must say that he has quite a lot of sight words too. He must have a photographic memory. And, I've noticed too, that lately his behavior is much more mature on a consistent basis. He still has his toddler-like, weepy, tired, whiney moments. But those are very few and far between lately. Most of the time I'm very impressed with his behavior and how grown-up he acts! And his vocabulary, it just blows us away! The other day I caught him moving the antenna on the television so that he "could get better reception" he told me! I love it!

Silas is really changing lately too! He's showing us just how much he really does know. I think that he's never been as vocal as Avery, so we just didn't realize that he knows more than he lets on! He recognizes all of his uppercase letters and can tell you their sounds. And this all came out of no-where! Out of the blue one day he asked what "F-O-O-T-B-A-L-L" spells. That same day, we were at the store and he told me he knew how to spell pizza. I asked him "how?" He said "D-I-G-I-O-R-N-O-S!" That had me rolling in the aisle in laughter. Yes, we had a DiGiorno's pizza in the cart. Little stinker just blows me away! And the conversations he has with Avery lately are hilarious. They actually argue about things that make sense. They both make valid points and Silas no longer assumes that Avery just knows the right answer all the time. He's realized that he has a mind of his own, and a sharp one at that! Oh, and he now wants to be a police officer when he grows up. I just keep telling him that he can be what he sets his mind to be! Love this little monkey!

And Nolan has changed a lot too. I know I've posted a lot about him lately, but even in the past week he's changed so much! His new fun phrase is "Oh WOW!" He says it all the time about every little, but exciting thing. Even breakfast this morning was an "oh wow" moment. So cute! And, this is very exciting for mom, Nolan has been sleeping through the night since he had his tubes put in! Most nights this has been from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. and then back to sleep until 8 a.m. And just last night it was from 8 p.m. until 7:30 a.m. I'm praying that this is a trend that continues! He is starting to be more brave about taking steps but just a few, and just in between two fixed points. He'll get to walking when he's good and ready! Nolan is such a happy boy, and lately his smiles are just so big and full of joy. That makes my day and truly melts my heart!

So, as you can tell, the boys continue to grow and change. We love it and are trying to embrace it all. I don't want to miss a thing, as I realize just how precious these days are!

Our lives are about to change in yet another way as well. Steve has accepted a promotion at the fire department. He will be "Training Luitenant" under the Training Chief. His position with have him working new hours that he will be able to set himself. He will be scheduling, planning, and administrating training for the department. And doing a lot of paperwork too. :) He will no longer be a shift worker, and will mostly work week days. This will be the first time in our almost 9 years of marriage that he will be home nights and weekends! I'm excited and ready to embrace this change. He'll transition into this position and it will become his full-time assignment mid-April. 2009 is turning out to be quite a year of change for this family!

Happy First Birthday Nolan!

The Birthday Boy! Doesn't he have such a great smile?
My baby boy is one today. I'm so proud of the little boy that he is becoming. I cannot imagine life without this happy, go-lucky, sweet, charming boy! Here are a few of the things that I don't want to forget about Nolan at age one:
  • He loves his family. Especially his big brothers!
  • He squeals when his daddy comes home and his favorite phrase is "Hi Dad!," which he says in his deepest boy voice.
  • He just learned to blow kisses and even makes the "mmm...uahhh" noise to go with them.
  • He loves to give slobbery open mouth kisses!
  • He has 8 teeth (4 on top, 4 on bottom) and 2 molars cutting in now!
  • He can crawl super fast, stand with little assistance, but refuses to take steps without holding onto someone.
  • His favorite food is spaghetti. But he also loves fruit snacks and hot dogs too!
  • He tells us "all done" when he is finished eating.
  • He says "love you" sometimes, and if you say "I love..." he finishes with "daddy!"
  • He feels so big when he climbs up on the bathroom stool and plays in the sink. Just like his big brothers do when they are getting ready for bed!
  • He has always slept on his belly, and while that hasn't changed he now also sleeps with his head on his pillow and his blanket pulled up to his mouth.
  • He has recently discovered that he likes to color too. He is learning to not chew on crayons.
  • His temperment is pretty mild. He goes with the flow pretty well, but likes to voice his opinion very loudly when you take something away from him! He can scream like a girl when he wants too.
  • He's very cuddly when he wakes up and when he is very sleepy. Otherwise he's a quick kiss or hug and then off to play again.
  • His favorite toys are balls and things that make noise.
  • He claps and likes to shake his head "no."
  • He loves music, and bounces or dances when he hears it.
  • He's a strong boy, with a soft heart, and a hard head! He fills our lives with so much joy and we are so proud to call him our son! God has given us a great gift of three wonderful, healthy little boys! Thank you God!!!

All Better!

Nolan's surgery to put in his tubes went very well. He was such a good boy this morning and didn't really even act as if anything out of the ordinary had happened today. The procedure was so quick that he was simply away from us for 15 minutes. And he honestly was groggy for like 5 minutes and then was back to good 'ol Nolan! We brought him home and he played for a couple hours despite having been up since 5 a.m.! I'm so proud of our little trooper!
Here's the little guy trying to stave off his hunger this morning!

Relaxing with Daddy! He was so somber in his arms.

"Mom, I do not want to lay down!" I only took this picture for dramatic effect! They carried him away and carried him back. The only bed he had to lay on was in the OR.

Looking at ourselves in the mirror. Trying not to think about being hungry!
The sleepy big brothers watching cartoons in the room. They really didn't like waiting for their breakfast either! But they were so good to Nolan. And so glad that we let them be involved in what was going on with their "baby brother." They are such protectors!

Nolan's 1st Birthday Party!

I can't believe my baby boy turns ONE on Thursday! I cannot recall a faster year in my life! We celebrated his birthday with family and friends last night. We had a spaghetti dinner because spaghetti is Nolan's favorite food. And then we had cake. And boy did Nolan enjoy his cake! He had his own cake to work with and I mean to tell you that he ate almost all of it! And he wore what he didn't eat. Here are a few pictures of Nolan's First Party:
His Mickey Mouse cake. This was the one everyone else got to eat!

I honestly can't believe he let me put the bib AND the hat on him!

The moment the cake was within his reach, his hand was deep inside it!

He started out just sucking the icing off of his hands.

Looking around just to make sure that he wasn't in trouble. Isn't he so sweet?

His brothers needed a little taste! And he politely shared.

And by the time he was done, the cake was gone and all that was left was a tray of red icing. And a little boy covered from one ear to the other in cake!

After a quick bath, Nolan was ready to open presents. Actually he was more interested in the paper. But he enjoyed playing with his gifts after they were unwrapped and ready to go!

The first gift he sort of opened by himself!

And this was his technique for opening the big box. He climbed aboard!
And to top off his day of celebrating, Nolan decided that he would cut his first molar teeth last night. He and his daddy played for a few hours in the night when he couldn't sleep from the pain! This morning when I checked, his top two molars were breaking through. Have a mentioned how blessed these boys are to have such a wonderful father? He takes such great care of his boys (and their mom too!)

Sledding fun

Here is some video of the boys sledding down the hill:

They had a BLAST! They stayed outside for almost 3 hours on Thursday. Of course they also had fun with the igloo their Dad dug out for them. Check it out:

These boys are sure blessed with an amazing father!!!

Nolan's First Sledding adventure

We took the boys sledding at Grandma and Grandpa Frye's on Thursday. Avery and Silas had a great time sledding down the hill back by the woods. But Nolan also got to have his very first sledding adventure (in the front yard.) He seemed to enjoy it, but he wore out quickly. He played for about 10 minutes. Here are some pictures:
Trying to get them to pose on the front porch!

Daddy pulled Nolan on the inner tube! He really enjoyed this!

Crawling around in the snow. This was fun until his face fell in the snow.

Warming up with Great Grandpa Frye. These two are buddies!

And with Great Grandma Frye too!

Shortly after we came in, I sat down in a recliner with Nolan and he fell asleep right away. Anyone who knows Nolan knows that this is a rarity for him! He likes to fall asleep on his own and in his bed. So the cold weather and snow must have really worn him out!
